Everyone at AKFP Group was delighted to watch a team from Friends’ School in Lisburn claim the top honour from Young Enterprise Northern Ireland recently. Actikids was named Young Enterprise NI Company of the Year after the successful launch of their ‘Around the World in 50 Pages’ activity book, aimed at children between 6 and 10 years old.
The team of ten pupils from Friends’ School have been advised throughout their Young Enterprise journey by AKFP Group Director, Roger Kennedy, who joined the pupils as their Business Adviser at strategy and business meetings.
Young Enterprise Northern Ireland are our chosen charity for 2015 and, as well as Roger’s involvement with Actikids, AKFP Group have been taking part in a range of activities to support the cause as best we can. Just recently, a handful of the team completed an abseil down The Europa Hotel in Belfast in aid of the charity. Below you can see Nicola Russell preparing for her descent!
‘Around the World in 50 Pages’ became the first production from Actikids, which was formed with the stated aim of ‘capitalising on the sustained interest in the children’s activity book market’. The book aims to educate young children about the world around them, ‘without them even realising it!’
The pupils did not stop at merely having the book published. The team have attended launch events at Waterstones and Smyth Patterson in Lisburn, and at local events and markets, as well as offering the book for sale via their dedicated website.
During the course of their Young Enterprise journey, the team have had to consider every area of business, with dedicated job roles around sales, marketing, finance, management, operations and IT. Their goal for the remainder of their time together is for ‘moderate growth and maintaining an excellent team morale, no matter what difficulties we should encounter’.
The Actikids team will now progress to the national UK Young Enterprise finals in London on the 1st to the 3rd July. Well done team and best of luck from AKFP Group for the next round of awards!
